Cross Extending Table

The award-winning Cross Extending Dining Table by Matthew Hilton is a fine example of advanced wood-manufacturing techniques. The elegant lines of this modern design creates a distinctly up-to-date piece which is practical and adaptable. Made from solid wood with a veneered chamfered edged top, it has two extendable leaves to fit the entire family.

Matthew Hilton updated the design for Cross Extending Table in 2016, reducing the depth of the tabletop, reducing the size of the base to feel more light and elegant than the previous version. The depth increased by 10cm to 1m to give more room for entertaining friends and family.

"The table is a perfect example of the designer's talents, with its winning combination of a pleasing profile, finely balanced proportion, good value and practicality." Homes & Gardens magazine.

This contemporary table is comfortably large, yet retains a visual balance due to the proportions of the tabletop. The functional design of the base is sturdy, handsome and built for multiple uses.

The Cross extending table received the Elle Decoration Award for Best in Furniture in 2006, won the Homes & Gardens Classic Design Award in 2007 and was awarded the Design Guild Mark in 2008.

We hope you are delighted with your purchase from Case Furniture. However, if you would like to return any items or your purchase is unsuitable (certain restrictions apply), we are happy to provide a refund or exchange assuming that the goods are still in their original packaging and in a fully resaleable condition.

Your right to cancel an order for goods starts the moment you place your order and ends 14 days from the day you receive your goods. If your order consists of multiple goods, the 14 days runs form when you get the last of the batch. This 14 day period is the time you have to decide whether to cancel, you then have a further 14 days to actually send the goods back.

In order to arrange a refund, return or exchange, you will need to contact us by emailing info@casefurniture.com or call +44 (0)20 8870 4488. You will receive a reply with a returns authorisation and instructions on how to proceed with the product return.

All goods returned must be in a perfect and saleable condition with original product packaging and instructions where appropriate. If the goods do not reach us in a perfect and saleable condition, and in their original packaging, then your right to a full refund may be affected. If returning by post, the parcel and its contents are your responsibility until they are received by us. The cost of returning the goods is at your expense. This does not affect your statutory rights.

We recommend using a registered postal service and retaining the proof of postage as we may require signed proof of delivery. We are not responsible for returned goods being lost or damaged in transit.

    Restrictions

We are unable to offer a refund or exchange on gift coupons.

    Damaged/Faulty Goods

In the unlikely event that your order arrives damaged, please email info@casefurniture.com or call +44 (0)20 8870 4488 immediately. We advise you to check your purchase as soon as it is delivered.

We will then arrange for a collection of the goods and organise a replacement to be sent out to you at the earliest opportunity.

    Wood appearance

We supply high-quality furniture grade wood. This may vary for grain, colour, knots and other markings. We do our best to select and match as appropriate but we cannot accept returns on the basis of natural variations. Any special requirements for colour, matching, etc. must be provided in writing.

Wood warpage, shrinkage, and dimensional changes

Wood is an active material, in that it is known to have dimensional changes depending upon moisture, temperature, humidity etc.

We purchase and supply furniture grade 1 wood which has been dried to correct moisture content but sometimes warpage, shrinkage etc, can still occur, especially when the furniture is shipped to drier climates from where it was made. We will accept returns if the timber was not appropriately dried but we cannot accept returns that stem from climactic differences. Should movement occur in the wood addressing issues of temperature and moisture usually resolves the issue.

    Matthew Hilton

Born in 1957, Matthew Hilton studied at Portsmouth College of Art and then at Kingston Polytechnic. After graduating he worked for Capa as an industrial designer and model maker. He then set up his own design studio/workshop in 1984. SCP was the first manufacturer to produce Hilton’s work, launching Hilton’s Bow shelves at Milan Furniture Fair in 1986.

Nineteen years on, SCP and Matthew Hilton continue to collaborate, producing seminal furniture such as the Balzac armchair, Orford sofa and Flipper coffee table to name but a few. While continuing his relationship with SCP, Hilton has gone on to work with many well respected international manufacturers including CASE, Driade, Disform, Sawaya and Moroni, XO, Montis, Perobell, Authentics, Montina, Livit and Ycami. 2007 saw the launch of Matthew Hilton’s own brand of furniture and he is now launching new designs with both CASE and SCP.

Matthew Hilton doesn't believe in design movements, and he really doesn't like the concept of design as a fashion. Rather, he thinks the design process is part of the evolution of any object through history. Designing with the end user in mind, and whether that means a household of ten or one, he takes pleasure in finding the fluid, easily adaptable solution to fit today's domestic spaces.
