A Classic Reborn: Forum by Robin Day

Celebrating its official launch at Clerkenwell Design Week, allow us to formally introduce you to Forum by Robin Day, an icon of Mid-Century design finally reissued nearly 60 years after it was first created. Better still, it’s exclusive to Case.
Comprising the Forum 3 Seater Sofa and the Forum Armchair, Case collaborated with The Robin and Lucienne Foundation to replicate the cult furniture exactly as it was back in 1964, characterised by a hardwood frame beautifully crafted with a finger joint detail supported by chrome-plated legs mounted to the outside. Day purposefully exposed these elements to showcase the beauty of the form, so the visible construction was absolutely integral to the design.
Drawing on inspiration from old drawings and an example of the original production, the team worked tirelessly to recreate every single detail, from the exact seat angle to the full-width timber blank casing, while incorporating modern materials such as Dacron-wrapped foam cushions, solid walnut or oak, and a metal-reinforced frame. These ensure superior comfort for contemporary living without compromising the original aesthetic.
Paula Day, founder and trustee and chair at The Robin and Lucienne Foundation, says: “I grew up with my father Robin Day’s Forum. He furnished our living room with two Forum sofas when they first launched in the 1960s, and chose to continue using them for nearly half a century. With this bold design, he challenged the convention of hiding a sofa’s timber frame under the upholstery, instead placing it on the outside to create the Forum’s handsome and unmistakable signature feature.” She adds: “It’s a real pleasure to see the original Forum returning in Case’s authentic reissue. Case has worked with dedication to achieve a high-quality new production that is true to the original dimensions and respectful of the original aesthetic.”
