Designed by Victorian architect Sir John Rennie and constructed during the 19th Century, the Royal William Yard was designed to be used by the Admiralty as a victualling depot for the Royal Navy. Named after King William IV, the yard was used for various other purposes including a slaughterhouse, a rum store, repair workshops, and food, clothing and equipment stores. Today, the Royal William Yard is considered to be one of the most important groups of historic military buildings in Britain.
In 1992, the yard was closed as it was no longer deemed appropriate to use an ancient monument for the storage of naval equipment. In 1999. regeneration company Urban Splash drew up plans to transform the redundant Yard into a 'thriving sustainable community', and since then have worked with designers to create solutions within the challenges of the Grade I listed building. Now regenerated and a bustling hub of restaurants and shops we were excited to collaborate with Urban Splash and supply the Eos Outdoor Range to Prezzo, Wagamama, River Cottage, Seco and Las Iguanas Restaurants.
The Eos Outdoor Collection designed by Matthew Hilton was a highly suitable product for this project due to it's functional and minimal design aesthetic. Constructed from powder coated aluminium the Eos Range will not rust over time making it a versatile and durable piece of outdoor furniture for restaurant use.
Smartly proportioned and lightweight, the Eos collection draws its name from the Greek goddess of dawn and bringer of light.
For the majority of the restaurants we supplied to, we created a custom gun metal grey colour to match the protected original machinery around the site. As the site is grade I listed, we also made custom rubber feet to protect the floor and reduce noise pollution.
