Nestled beneath fruit trees and surrounded by a breathtaking view of the mountains, The Junipero Hotel in Palm Springs, CA is the ultimate tranquil escape. Attracting discerning guests from around the world due to its serene Mediterranean and Moroccan influences and exquisite design details, the outside space was furnished with selected pieces from the Eos Garden Furniture Range by Matthew Hilton, to create a contemporary and fresh aesthetic. We caught up with interior designer and entrepreneur Jaime Kowal to find out about the inspiration behind the project.

Case: Can you tell us a bit about the Junipero and how the place came about?

Jaime Kowal: The Junipero is a beautifully renovated 1930's Spanish Colonial six room boutique accommodation in Palm Springs. My business partners presented me with the opportunity to design the interior and create the brand for the already beautifully renovated space and I am always thrilled to take on new design challenges so was happy to accept. My vision was to breathe a tranquil, relaxed Moroccan vibe into the property. With the compound consisting of a historic main house and three suites, each of them was curated with natural and organic textiles, high quality furnishings and original art. The goal was to provide an elevated Palm Springs escape.

Case: What were your inspirations when designing the space?

Jaime Kowal: My original inspirations stemmed from the unique architecture and property itself. I wanted incorporate a Mediterranean color palette of turquoise and blue, combined with an easy Moroccan vibe, original large scale photography + artwork and the use of organic fabrics and textiles. With the backdrop of the property being wide open views of the San Jacinto mountains, the outdoor area makes for perfect Palm Springs lounging in one of our hammocks, EOS loungers, or at the communal table for optimal al fresco dining. Both the main house and rooms have a ton of natural light which really enhances the indoor/outdoor experience. I painted the doors of the rooms all a slightly different shade of blue which plays off well with the beautiful giant brushstroke custom wallpaper I used in the main dining room.

Case: What do you like about the EOS range and how did the range fit into the design scheme?

Jaime Kowal: The EOS loungers added the perfect clean line aesthetic to the relaxed feel I had already incorporated into the Junipero. They offer a contemporary counterpoint that balances perfectly with the natural elements of the mountainous backdrop and organic textures of the outdoor space.

Case: Would you specify EOS for future projects?

Jaime Kowal: I would absolutely specify Eos products for future projects. The style of the products are very clean and simple and the geometric lines add a subtle balance to the vision I aspire to curate.

Case: How is the outdoor space used throughout the year by the guests?

Jaime Kowal: Palm Springs is infamous for poolside lounging! The outdoor area gets about just as much use as the indoor space. Our outdoor pavilion sits 12 people for communal dining, laying in a hammock makes for a great morning read, and enjoying talking with friends at the fire pit during the desert's cooler months are just a few ways to take advantage of the stunning mountain views. Between the daytime in the pool and the evening in the hot tub the space is enjoyed all day long.
