Cinta Rug

Designed in London by Eleanor Pritchard and handwoven in India, the Cinta Rug is made up of tessellating parallelogram and triangle shapes. It is an intertwined pattern with a strong rhythmic quality. The design has a twisting momentum which references a spiralling ribbon movement.

Available in two sizes and the option of a hand-tufted or a flat-weave design.

Hand-Tufted

Hand-tufted rugs have a pile and are manually made using a tufting gun. The rug design is placed on a cotton fabric which is stretched tightly over a frame. The tufting gun pushes wool thread through the cotton, which are fastened to the base of the rug. The rug is then sheared so that all of the loops on the top of the rug are cut, which creates the pile. Hand tufting allows for the creation of curved patterns which vary in strand length. Hand tufted rugs are extremely durable and can withstand high traffic.

Flat-Weave

Flat-weave rugs have a flat finish and no pile. Flat-weave rugs are manually made using a vertical process which involves tightly knotting each thread. A small braid is made with each weave, creating the most characteristic feature of this traditional technique.

Every day care
As with all natural yarns, the wool pile may lose some surplus fibres at first and create ‘fluff balls’. Do not brush the rug or you will force more fibres out. Regular vacuuming will help reduce this effect and will usually remove all the loose fibres after a few months. From time to time a tuft may work loose in the rug and stand out from the surface. Do not pull these out as this may encourage further tufting. If it is a single yarn, take a sharp pair of scissors and cut the thread even to the length of the pile. If it is a loop, cut it as short as possible and you should not have any further problems. The rotating of a loose laid rug over a period of time will help maintain your rug pile surface.

Stain removal
Dab the stain immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub. If the wool pile stains use an appropriate stain remover but test it on an inconspicuous area of the rug first. It is crucial that in the event of a contaminated liquid staining the wool the pile, it is cleaned immediately, without being allowed to dry. Leaving it may result in staining. This is a wool product and as with all natural materials red wine will stain. Never use stain removers that contain bleach.

General maintenance
If an all over clean is require we recommend professional steam cleaning, by a dedicated carpet cleaning service. Colours may show a slight colour change when cleaned. Please seek professional advice at all times if unsure about a cleaning procedure.

Professional cleaning
A recommended cleaning agent should be used at all times.

Wood appearance

We supply high-quality furniture grade wood. This may vary for grain, colour, knots and other markings. We do our best to select and match as appropriate but we cannot accept returns on the basis of natural variations. Any special requirements for colour, matching, etc. must be provided in writing.

Wood warpage, shrinkage, and dimensional changes

Wood is an active material, in that it is known to have dimensional changes depending upon moisture, temperature, humidity etc.

We purchase and supply furniture grade 1 wood which has been dried to correct moisture content but sometimes warpage, shrinkage etc, can still occur, especially when the furniture is shipped to drier climates from where it was made. We will accept returns if the timber was not appropriately dried but we cannot accept returns that stem from climactic differences. Should movement occur in the wood addressing issues of temperature and moisture usually resolves the issue.

Eleanor Pritchard

Eleanor Pritchard is a weaver whose contemporary designs, acclaimed for their use of pattern, colour and texture, are inspired by traditional British fabrics. Extensive visual research underpins her collections and her practice includes large-scale projects, bespoke and commission work, mill-woven design and design consultancy. Her clients include the National Trust, Ely Cathedral and Christian Lacroix.

Known primarily for her fabric and upholstery designs, Eleanor Pritchard designed a rug collection for Case; the first time that Eleanor has designed a rug collection. Due to its long tradition of rug weaving and many skilled workshops specialising in different techniques, India provided the perfect setting to bring Pritchard’s vision to life.

“In all my work I like to play with discreet repeat pattern and I felt that this could lend itself well to rugs. There are lots of similarities between the rugs and our woven fabrics, but I was also really interested in the differences – for example exploring new techniques such as tufting and flat-weaves,” Pritchard explains.

“My work often has a mid-century quality and I feel a strong affinity for the aesthetics and design philosophy of this era. Alongside this runs a deep interest in vernacular British textiles and I see much of my work as a re-interpretation of these traditions and techniques for a contemporary audience.”
